The IEA Secretariat, IEA-RETD and FTI-CL Energy hosted a workshop on Friday 30th October 2015 in Paris to explore the market design issues associated with power systems with a high share of variable renewables, and to discuss the preliminary findings of the RES-E-MARKETS study.
The objective of the study is to provide policy recommendations for the direction of the reform of the current market and regulatory frameworks in the IEA-RETD member countries and beyond, in order to accommodate high shares of renewable energy in a timely, cost-effective and secure fashion.
The workshop was structured in four slots:
- General analysis framework
- Energy only market prototype
- Prosumer market prototype
- State-led and vertically integrated prototypes.
In the first part of the workshop, FTI-CL Energy presented the approach, the structure of the analysis and the preliminary findings of the study. Valuable high-level comments from more than 40 international experts were then given and will be integrated in the study.
The project is expected to be concluded in February 2016.
