The Renewable Energy Jobs Conference, organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), took place on Tuesday, 21 January 2014, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in connection with the World Future Energy Summit. The Conference discussed how the renewables sector has become a significant employer with potential for creating millions more jobs worldwide in coming years. IEA-RETD was represented in two sessions: Matthew Kennedy (SEA Ireland and IEA-RETD co-chair,) participated in the 2nd panel on “enabling policies for renewable energy job creation”, highlighting the importance of RE policies which create new jobs as co-benefits. Kristian Petrick (All Green Energies and acting for the IEA-RETD Operating Agent) had contributed to the chapter on “skills, education, occupation and training” and participated in the respective panel. He emphasized that RE policies have to be underpinned by educational policies to ensure adequate skill development.
