The IEA Renewable Energy Working Party (REWP) hosted a workshop on “Scaling-up renewables through decentralised energy solutions” in Paris on Tuesday 28 March.
The rise of decentralised and variable power generation, in particular through the combination of solar PV, electric vehicles, storage, district heating and demand response, offers opportunities for integrated local energy solutions. The workshop aims to take a closer look at these opportunities in driving the global energy transformation.
The IEA-RETD was invited to present RE-INDUSTRY (Renewable Energy in Industry). David de Jager summarized the final results and conclusions of the project in a session dedicated to “Drivers for change – the role of cities, industry and smart solutions”. More particularly the session examined:
- What have been the drivers behind city and industry decentralised energy investments?
- How can these players help provide greater energy system integration?
- How essential are smart energy systems and data in facilitating these local energy solutions?
This event brought together senior decision-makers, experts and key players from governments, municipalities, energy industries as well as IEA members, partners and Technology Collaboration Programmes.
